Volunteer Events

Volunteering for Great Parks of Hamilton County will lead you to fun, rewarding and unforgettable experiences! Help with invasive plant removal, patrol one of our more than 70 miles of trails, volunteer at our Shaker Trace Nursery or interact directly with park guests at one of our gift shops, visitor centers or nature programs. Join our outstanding team of volunteers and staff members and learn new skills, meet people with similar interests, all while making a difference in your community. Whether you have time to volunteer long-term, a few weeks or only once or twice a year, Great Parks of Hamilton County has a place for you! It's fun, rewarding and easy to get involved. Invasive Species Removal at Withrow Nature Preserve

Invasive species diminish biodiversity, outcompete native species, and threaten the ecosystem. Learn how to identify and properly treat invasive plants that could be present in your backyard while removing invasive species along the Trout Lily Trail.

Invasive Species Removal at Miami Whitewater Forest

Restore our campground's natural beauty by removing harmful invasive species in preparation for native plantings. Remove invasive honeysuckle and pear trees using hand tools to help our natives thrive. Park at the campground bathrooms. The worksite is a short walk from the bathrooms.

Invasive Species Removal at Richardson Forest Preserve

Richardson Forest Preserve’s 413 acres, which include 1.34 acres of freshwater marsh, serve as a habitat for many rare and unusual plant species. These include skunk cabbage, marsh marigold, and five-angled dodder. Help remove invasive honeysuckle to beautify and protect this conservation area.

Wintercreeper Removal at Winton Woods

Wintercreeper is an invasive species that harms trees. In some sensitive natural areas, herbicides cannot be used to control Wintercreeper, so that is where you come in! Help hand-pull this invasive to save the trees and open the forest floor.

Invasive Species Removal at Kroger Hills

Restore a portion of high-quality old forest by removing invasive honeysuckle. Restoring this area will protect native species and create a more accessible entrance for future maintenance.

Invasive Species Removal at Shawnee Lookout

Remove invasive, woody plants around the Cedar Bend Picnic Area. The removal of invasive species, including bush honeysuckle, wisteria, wintercreeper, and burning bush, will open the understory for native species. Creating this space in the forest will allow for the growth of paw paw, spicebush, and spring ephemerals. These native species are vital to our ecosystem and provide a better food supply for native wildlife and a lovely experience for park guests.

Litter Cleanup at Glenwood Gardens

Clean up litter along Sheffield Road to protect this 335-acre park, which features formal gardens, prairies, forests, and wetlands. Registration closes on Tuesday, December 16.
