Volunteer Events

Volunteering for Great Parks of Hamilton County will lead you to fun, rewarding and unforgettable experiences! Help with invasive plant removal, patrol one of our more than 70 miles of trails, volunteer at our Shaker Trace Nursery or interact directly with park guests at one of our gift shops, visitor centers or nature programs. Join our outstanding team of volunteers and staff members and learn new skills, meet people with similar interests, all while making a difference in your community. Whether you have time to volunteer long-term, a few weeks or only once or twice a year, Great Parks of Hamilton County has a place for you! It's fun, rewarding and easy to get involved. Some plant species diminish biodiversity, outcompete native species, and threaten the ecosystem. Learn how to identify and properly treat aggressive plant species that could be present in your backyard while removing them along the Trout Lily Trail. This event runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Plant Removal at Fernbank Park

Hunt for honeysuckle to ensure our new park signage stands out! Removing plants like honeysuckle reestablishes native species, including sensitive spring ephemerals. These spring ephemerals are the first flowers that pollinators find to enjoy and jumpstart their spring. This event runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Litter Cleanup at Glenwood Gardens

Clean up litter along Sheffield Road to protect this 335-acre park, which features formal gardens, prairies, forests and wetlands. Registration closes on Tuesday, February 17. This event runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Tree Planting Maintenance at Miami Whitewater Forest

Multiple native tree plantings occur annually throughout the park. These plantings require routine maintenance to ensure their success. Tasks include auditing surviving trees, repairing wire fences, adjusting posts and removing vegetation within the fencing. The fencing around these plantings is necessary to reduce animal impacts such as deer browsing and bucks rubbing the bark off. This event runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Remove plant species in high-quality natural areas near the Mountain Bike Trail to preserve the beauty of this deep-woods trail and habitat. This event runs from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
