Welcome back to another un-brrr-lieveably fun year of the Great Parks Winter Hike Series! Hit the trails for challenging hikes, ranging in distance from ranging from four to 5.5 miles, held at a different park each week to guarantee a new experience. Hikes begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with a bowl of soup and plenty of camaraderie.

Sign up for one, several or the whole series. All participants receive a 2026 Winter Hike Series button and a sticker for each location completed!

Winter Hike Series

This annual series of challenging and educational hikes, ranging from four to 5.5 miles, explores the natural history and unique features of five iconic Great Parks destinations. Each week, join the hiking group that suits you best: the standard hike, a leisurely stroll, a fast-paced challenge, a family experience with nature games (perfect for kids ages 5-10) and more! All hikes conclude with soup, cookies and camaraderie. Registration is required for each hike. When registered, your selected hiking group will appear in the confirmation email, which hikers should have ready at check-in. Hikers will receive a button with space to commemorate each registered hike with a sticker throughout the series. Children must be accompanied by a paid adult. Registration closes on Friday at 3 p.m. before each hike. An accessible hike is available at Winton Woods and Miami Whitewater Forest on a paved multi-use trail. To request an accessible hike, call 513-521-7275 at least five days in advance.

Cost: $10 (ages 5+) Age(s): Adults & children 5+

Tree Hike – Learn to ID trees in winter using bark and buds.
Bird Hike – Explore birds overwintering in Ohio. Binoculars recommended.
Lake Life – Discuss the local wildlife who call the lake home.
Fast Hikes – Challenge yourself with a faster-paced nature hike.
Family Hike – Play games and explore nature as a family. Recommended for ages 5-10.
Leisurely Hikes – Relax and enjoy a slower-paced educational hike.
Standard Hikes – Enjoy a moderately paced nature-based education hike.

Leisurely Hikes – Relax and enjoy a slower-paced educational hike.
Family Hike – Play games and explore nature as a family. Recommended for ages 5-10.

Fast Hikes – Challenge yourself with a faster-paced nature hike.
Leisurely Hikes – Relax and enjoy a slower-paced educational hike.
Family Hike – Play games and explore nature as a family. Recommended for ages 5-10.

Leisurely Hikes – Relax and enjoy a slower-paced educational hike.
Family Hike – Play games and explore nature as a family. Recommended for ages 5-10.
Standard Hikes – Enjoy a moderately paced nature-based education hike without the drive.
Miami Fort Trail+ – Includes scenic overlook at Miami Fort Trail plus other trails. Requires driving to trail head.
Miami Fort Trail+ Fast – Challenge yourself to a fast paced nature hike. Includes Miami Fort plus other trails. Requires driving to trail head.
